The Royal 559 Academy coaching staff is comprised of professional coaches with vast and diverse levels of experience, ranging from elite high school and club levels to international and US National Team experience. Our coaches pride themselves in being great role models, mentors and students of the game. They are committed to the holistic mission of the Royal 559 Academy focused on athletes, coaches, and parents.
MATT BROOKS
Coach Brooks is a co-founder of Royal 559 and currently serves as General Manager, Girls Director and 14U Girls coach for the club. He began coaching water polo with Team Vegas (Henderson) WPC (2002-2006), where he was able to work with various coaches, including Sandy Nitta (Fmr. Head Coach of USA and Brazilian Women’s National Teams).
After moving to Fresno, Coach Brooks began assisting with the Clovis West High School girl’s water polo team, where he has helped guide the Golden Eagles to the CIF-CS Final each year, winning titles in 2012, 2014 and 2016. He is currently the Director of Sport and Head Coach of the Clovis West Girls Water Polo program.
Brooks also vast experience as a classroom educator, having previously taught at the high school, community college and University levels. For the last three decades, he has worked as a research scientist for the US Government. Brooks also has extensive experience serving on leadership teams and boards of directors, as well as mentoring and evaluating employees and developing plans of growth for non-profit organizations.
He brings a wealth of knowledge in key areas, along with his love of the sport, to Royal 559. Coach Brooks lives in Fresno with wife, Jenny and has four children (Elizabeth, Matt, Mary and McCarthy). All of his familiy members are water polo players.
